GOLDSBORO, NC - Amidst widespread staff cutbacks by large companies with NC operations, AT&T opened its new, $6 million call center in Goldsboro Tuesday.

The copany says it will hire up to 400 people for the center, 50 more than originally planned.

The employees will help AT&T broadband customers.

The company says it is returning 5,000 jobs to the U.S. from off-shore operations.

"AT&T is committed to bringing jobs back into the U.S., and this new center is an example of that commitment and how the merger is benefiting consumers and the communities in which we work and live," said AT&T chair and CEO Randall Stephenson.
