WRENTHAM - The Adidas footwear store at Wrentham Village Premium Outlets on Route 1A has been fined by the state Attorney General's office for employing minors without work permits.
The store at the outlet mall off South Street was cited for four counts of the violation, and fined $200.
Attorney General Martha Coakley's office has issued 27 citations for more than 100 child labor violations at retail stores in malls throughout the state for violations during the summer working season.
A total of 109 stores were visited.
The attorney general's office found there was improvement in complying with child labor laws, however, as four more citations for 177 violations were issued for last winter's holiday shopping season. Another violation took place at Footlocker at Silver City Galleria mall in Taunton, and that was one of only three stores cited for violations in both the summer and holiday seasons.
The store was fined $100 for the recent violation of employing a minor without a work permit.
The Hollister Co. store at Silver City Galleria was cited for three violations of employing minors without work permits, and fined $50, and three other Hollister locations were cited for 40 violations.
The Massachusetts Child Labor Laws include restrictions on both the type of occupations in which minors may be employed, as well as the hours during which they may work.
Amendments enacted in 2007 include restricting employment of 16 and 17 year-olds to 10 p.m. on nights preceding school. Another new safeguard in the law makes it illegal for minors to work past 8 p.m. without adult supervision.
