A month after employment increased in the Tyler area, it slipped back in September, according to Texas Workforce Commission figures released today.

Employment last month was 91.7 percent, down from 92.2 percent the previous month. It matched the state’s rate but was well above the national rate of 90.5 percent.

It was well below the Tyler area’s employment rate of 95.1 percent in September 2008.

Last month’s employment was up from 91.9 percent in July. However, it was nowhere near the 94.9 percent seen in August 2008.

“The Texas job market con-tinued to tighten as most industries experienced job losses in September,” Tom Pauken, Texas Workforce Commission chairman, said in a news release. “While unemployment in Texas remains well below the national rate … this serious national recession continues to affect us adversely in Texas.”
