Staffing company Express Employment is reporting weekly sales records, as companies turn to contract staffing to meet their need for workers.
"While recent job reports are mixed, the strength of our sales and placement of temporary associates indicate that companies are willing to hire under the right circumstances," said Robert A. Funk, CEO of Express. "Without question, companies need people and they desire greater flexibility in their hiring practices. Contract staffing represents a viable solution for many companies."
During the past 12 weeks, sales at Express Employment franchises in Michigan have increased 106 percent compared to the same 12-week period in 2009. Overall, year-to-date sales in Michigan are up 94 percent. In fact, sales at Express Employment franchises in Michigan are running 35 percent higher than in 2005, their highest sales year ever.
"We see no signs that the current sales and placement activity will weaken this year," Funk said. "We expect strong sales and placement activity to continue in the fourth quarter." Express Employment's strongest sales activity is traditionally in the fourth quarter, he added.
Since the beginning of 2010, Express Employment franchise offices have helped 205,929 people find jobs. Between April and August, 14,773 unemployed people found work through Express, the company reports.
In Michigan, Express Employment has 127 open positions it's looking to fill. Jobs range from light industrial to sales, clerical, machining and engineering.
