Lower Paxton Township, Pa. - Dozens of people are looking for answers about a company they thought was going to find work for them. Instead, they said they lost $100.
The Job seekers responded to classified ads from a company called Sun Place Enterprises on Linglestown Road in Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County. The company also used the name Sunshine Enterprises.
There have been lots of angry people stopping by the office this week, wanting their money back. "I went to the office, gave them $100. They gave me the receipt and I was told I would start October 20th," said Andrey Martin of Harrisburg.
ABC 27 Talkback:
Martin said he's desperate for a job so he borrowed the $100 from his grandmother. But Martin said he found out there is no job for him and probably, there never was.
"As of yesterday, we've had close to 20 people either call or come here wanting to report that they were scammed out of $100 each," said Lt. Gary Seefeldt of Lower Paxton Township Police.
Seefeldt said police want to talk with 44 year-old Salim Aljadid, with recent addresses in New Cumberland and Carlisle.
Jessica Dice said she started working as an office manager at the company about three weeks ago. She said Aljadid just disappeared this week. "I spoke with him on Sunday and he told me that he was getting ready to meet with a lawyer and that's the last time anyone's heard from him," said Dice. abc27 News was not able to contact Aljadid either.
Dice said people who worked in the office thought it was a legitimate business and collected about $10,000 from people who wanted the supposed, warehouse jobs. "We're the face behind this, but we can't do anything about it," said Dice. "They're mad at us and we're victims also."
Lower Paxton Police stress they are just beginning the investigation and Aljadid has not been charged with anything. A woman who described herself as co-owner of the business, Kathleen Ryan, declined to comment.
