OWOSSO - Midwest Bus Corporation, an Owosso-based transit bus rebuilder, announced today an agreement that will bring about 50 new jobs to the area.

Midwest Bus recently was awarded contracts to overhaul 123 transit buses for the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority in Boston and 87 buses for the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation in the Detroit area.

The company will expand into a 15,000-square-foot facility located on Delaney Road in Owosso Township for the purpose of renovating the buses from the Detroit area.

The contracts mean the company will spread business across the area with contracts for new front-end caps going to MRM Industries in Owosso and decals to Edwards Sign and Screen Printing Inc. in Owosso, along with numerous other contracts with companies throughout Michigan.

“In addition to the approximately 40-50 additional new employees that we hope to hire in connection with this project there are a number of other employment situations that will be created as a result of the other Michigan companies that we are going to be utilizing,” Midwest Bus President Daniel Morrill said.

U.S. Rep. Dave Camp, R-Sanford, said the contract is a very positive thing for the area.

“You've sort of outlined the ripple effect of economic development,” Camp said. “When something good happens, it grows.”
