The World Wide Web has a wealth of resources related to seeking and obtaining employment. Additionally, the Muskogee Public Library offers some unique online resources for seeking a career.

One of the online employment resources available for the public via their web site (www.eok.lib.ok.us) is Learning Express.

Learning Express is an interactive online learning platform of practice tests and tutorial course series designed to help people succeed on the academic or licensing tests they must pass; get immediate scoring, complete answer explanations, and an individualized analysis of your results.

One of the tutorial courses entitled “Creating a Great Resume” describes how to create a resume, as well as provide suggestions for resume content. During the course users answer a series of questions relating to their professional history and experience.

Learning Express in turn then uses the information to create a resume the user then can print out and/or save electronically. This aspect of Learning Express allows the user to focus on the content of their resume rather than spending time putting the information into a workable format.

To access Learning Express navigate to the library’s Web site, click the “research” link from the top of the page, then scroll to the Learning Express link. Once in Learning Express, create a free account then choose “Job Search & Workplace Skills” to access the career course “Creating a Great Resume.”

The Oklahoma Career Information System (OKCIS) is another service the library offers. In addition to education information OKCIS offers users the opportunity to explore career and labor market information.

OKCIS has extensive information regarding careers including expected salary earnings for Oklahoma, preparation, and projected outlook. OKCIS also provides informative information about the creation of a resume as well as tips for searching for a career.

OKCIS allows users to create a free account to track career information they’ve located as well as build a resume. To access OKCIS navigate to MPL’s web site, click the “research” link from the top of the page, then choose the OKCIS link.

The Muskogee Public Library provides links to other employment resources on the Web via Delicious (delicious.com/muskogeepl/employment). Navigating to the MPL link on Delicious provides a listing of web sites MPL has reviewed and added which pertains to seeking a career or job. Web sites include the job classifieds from the Muskogee Phoenix, job banks from the state of Oklahoma (Oklahoma JobLink), and federal job listings (USA Jobs) among others. Web site listings are continually being added to this list.

The online resources mentioned are a sample of the information available. There are number of informative employment materials available for check out as well. For information, contact the library at 682-6657, or visit www.eok.lib.ok.us. E-mail the library at muskpublib@eok.lib.ok.us.

Thank you for your continued support of Muskogee Public Library!
