The local economy and technology have forced changes in the way people look for employment.

One constant during these changing times is the Tulsa City-County Library. The Career Center in the Research Center on the fourth floor of Central Library, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue, is a one-stop location for those looking to find a job or to make the transition into a new career field.

Ruth Wiens, TCCL subject specialist, coordinates the Career Center, as well as meets with local groups to share how the library can facilitate job seekers.

"The center is filled with career guide information for anyone looking to find a new job or research the job prospects of another employment field," said Wiens. "We have the most current editions of occupational outlook handbooks with specific information on job outlook, earnings, training and related occupations. We are a great starting point for a person looking to find the maximum information before choosing a career shift." A popular service of the Career Center is Learning Express. This is an online database with practice tests designed to help students and adult learners succeed on academic or licensing tests. Practice tests are available for jobs in areas such as civil service, firefighting, real estate, law enforcement, and nursing and allied health. By registering an account, you can keep track of progress and areas of improvement.
