The Upper Rio Grande At Work, GC Services and the International Business College have teamed up to provide job seekers skills they might be lacking. It's called the Customer Service Representative Course. It was developed by the IBC to provide GC Services more qualified applicants.

GC Services is a customer service call center that employs 1,940 customer service representatives for other businesses. Some of the skills required for the job include the ability to type, navigate a computer and business communication.

The application process includes a typing and assessment test. Job seekers are given two chances to pass. However, there's now hope for those who fail.

"The students for whatever reason may not have passed the entrance requirements to go into this particular field. So what we're doing is reinforcing whatever skills they need in order to be employed. It's a 12-week course and they'll be job-ready," said Margie Aguilar, vice president for the International Business College.

According to Aguilar, the Customer Service Representative Course is the first pilot program of its kind in the state.

The first class started in mid-April. Currently, there are 15 students taking the training course, but Aguilar anticipates it will double by the end of the month.

The deadline to enroll for the course is June 21.Classes start every six weeks. For more information, call 859-0422.
