AUSTIN, MN -- They came looking for work.

LaRhee Mathison says, "Part time would work best for me right now."

But now might not be the best time to find that dream job.

Stacy Edland says, "Now it's much more the employers' job market they have the upper hand so it's harder to find a job and when you do get that job you really have to perform, you really have to prove yourself in order for you to keep that position."

Minnesota's unemployment rate rose by two-tenths of a point from February to March even though the state's economy added about 52-hundred jobs. Stacy Edland of Workforce Development says there are jobs out there, they just might be harder to find.

Stacy Edland says, "The job market is really tight right now so for job seekers the opportunity to come to a job fair where they get to talk one on one with employers is a really great benefit for them."

Despite what the reports say LaRhee Mathison was surprised by the variety of work she found at the Riverland Community College job fair on Thursday.

LaRhee Mathison says, "Actually I think there's quite a few jobs here for part time especially. I'm impressed with what is here."

But then again, she's never been one to shy away from tough work.

LaRhee Mathison says, "My philosophy most of my life has been if you're willing to get down and work there's work out there."

Stacy Edland says some tips to set yourself a part from other job seekers is to improve your resume, since that is often the first thing employers see. She also says to follow up with employers so they know you are still interested, if you don't hear back within a few weeks.
