Chicago: Falling Home Prices Could Hurt EmploymentUPI
March 20, 2007
U.S. employers should monitor housing data because falling prices could make it harder to attract good workers, an outplacement consulting firm said Tuesday.
“Employers trying to lure a star performer from out of town may find the candidate unwilling or unable to sell his or her home and, therefore, forced to refuse even a lucrative job offers,” Challenger, Gray & Christmas said.
The firm also said so-called say-on-pay legislation, which would give shareholders a nonbinding vote on executive compensation, could “push the most talented executives toward privately held companies.”
The U.S. Congress is expected to address say-on-pay legislation this week.
