Stuttgart, AR - In February, President Barack Obama signed into law H.R.1, the American Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

While the measure affects many aspects of life in America, the bill also included funding for more than 75 federal programs, many with local ties.

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is one of these programs.

The National Caucus and Center on Black Aged, Inc. is one of the largest minority-focused organizations, with 10 chapters, SCSEP offices in eight states and the District of Columbia. They administer two senior employment programs; the Senior Community Service Employment Program, funded through the Department of Labor, and the Senior Environmental Employment Program, funded through the Environmental Protection Agency.

These programs offer opportunities for low-income seniors, age 55 or older, to return part-time to the workforce with the SCSEP program and full time with the Senior Environmental Employment Program.

In order to apply for one of these positions, seniors must be age 55 or older and meet low income guidelines.
