Menard Inc. on Wednesday turned over thousands of documents to investigators looking for patterns of racial discrimination in the Eau Claire, Wis.-based company's employment practices. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said it needs the records in its probe of claims by nine minority employees who say the company discriminates in its hiring and promotion practices. Menard is the nation's third-largest home improvement retail chain, with about 200 stores and 27,000 employees.
A point of contention has been the EEOC's request for a list of all current and former employees at the company's headquarters dating to Jan. 1, 2003, along with their races and employment history.
The agency also has asked for the names, telephone numbers and reasons for workers who left or were fired during that time.
