SER Corp. in Wichita will administer a new employment program in 97 Kansas counties.

The grant, from the U.S. Department of Labor's Senior Community Service Employment Program, will bring nearly $3.5 million to Kansas, said Richard E. Lopez, chief executive of SER, which is at 1029 N. Main.

The national program provides training and employment for older Americans who live below federally recognized poverty rates, Lopez said.

Lopez said the program is one that provides "a much-needed labor force in both urban, but particularly rural counties in our state."

"SER is proud to administer it in Kansas," he said. "This program will complement our organization's mission."
