BILOXI, MS. - Employment at casinos on the Mississippi Gulf Coast is back at pre-Hurricane Katrina levels. Mississippi Gaming Commission member John Hairston says over 13-thousand people now work at coastal casinos.

Hairston spoke yesterday to a Leadership Gulf Coast meeting in Biloxi.

Katrina hit the Gulf coast in August of 2005. Several hundred thousand evacuees made their way to Texas.

Hairston says the opening of a new casino, the Silver Slipper, on November ninth, should put the casino employment figure past 14-thousand.

Hairston says the numbers don't include all the construction going on or other jobs.
