Research in Motion, the maker of Blackberry wireless devices, says it aims to boost its job count to 1,000 in Las Colinas.
In March, the Waterloo, Ontario-based company began calling its Las Colinas office its defacto U.S. headquarters. It currently employs 104 people there. RIM has about 7,000 employees globally.
On Monday, during a joint news conference with the Greater Dallas Chamber, Research in Motion Co-CEO Jim Balsillie said the company is looking to fill professional services jobs, research and development positions and technical support jobs.
Balsillie called the jobs "highly skilled" but did not talk about salaries. The ramp-up isn't on any tight timeline, he noted.
"Everything is really gated on getting the right people in the right place," he said.
In addition to making Blackberries and other wireless devices, Research in Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) also provides technical support to corporations who use the devices.
The Texas job increases are part of Research in Motion's strategy to expand across Latin America. Balsillie said the company is looking for bilingual employees.
Last February, Research in Motion leased the entire Brazos Building East at 5000 Riverside Drive in Las Colinas with the stated goal of consolidating workers to the one location.
The firm is set to announce its quarterly earnings on Dec. 20 after markets close.
