Julia was a very ambitious but often flighty young woman, more often than not consumed with enthusiasm for one thing or another. When it came to her career she tended to run rather than walk and was determined to reach Senior Partner by the time she was thirty.
Not wanting to take her time and learn the ropes she forged ahead determined to seek out the career path of her choice. When she happened across an advertisement for a competitors company Julia felt this might be a perfect opportunity to force the hand of her current bosses for in reality she did not want to leave her current role, rather she wanted to angle for a promotion sooner rather than later.
Feeling confident that she knew all she had to know about the business she failed to prepare effectively prior to the interview. The morning of the interview Julia arrived fully expectant of what was too follow. To her absolute horror and mortification she found herself unable to answer many of the questions put before her and struggled to formulate answers the entire way through the interview.
Her lack of preparation was evident and her initial arrogance was entirely dissipated. To add further insult as she left the interview feeling disheartened and demoralized she walked straight into her boss who was on his way to a business meeting.
Julia quickly realized that her lack of preparation had paralysed her in the interview and though she had the knowledge to answer many of the questions her confidence had taken such a jolt she had been unable to recover.
Julia’s self-serving tactics failed to work and the subsequent tension between Julia and her Manager made her working life difficult in the initial period after the interview.
